Mobile GT Heavy-Haul Permit Pack
You need mobile gas turbine power on site fast, and the turbine is ready. The real question is whether your trailers, transformers and control houses can actually reach you, legally and safely, along roads full of bridges, power lines and roundabouts.
A missing permit, an unsurveyed bridge or an expired escort booking can strand your convoy at a border or a weigh station for days. That delay pushes back first power, idles crews and puts penalties and customer confidence at risk long before the turbine ever turns.
USP&E as Your Guide From Yard to Energised Site
We know how frustrating it is when power is ready but the road is not. Since 2002 USP&E has built 150+ power stations and supplied about 25 000 MW, and our 400+ engineers and project managers have moved heavy generation equipment across borders and difficult terrain. We work under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Treat Transport as Your Critical Path
For your mobile power, transport is often the critical path. Your turbine trailer, generator trailer, control house and transformer may each exceed normal weight, width or height limits. List every load you will move with dimensions, axle weights and centre of gravity before you request a single permit, because authorities will ask for exactly that.
Build your transport plan backwards from your first-power date. Allow time for route surveys, permit processing, escort scheduling and any civil works such as temporary road widening or bridge strengthening. Plan for weather windows and local restrictions on night or weekend movements, and give yourself a buffer for the inspection that always seems to happen on the busiest day.
Survey Routes and Assemble Your Permit Pack
A route survey sees what maps miss: low bridges, overhead lines, tight bends, weak culverts, soft shoulders and site access gates. Drive the route with your haulier, measure clearances and photograph pinch points. Agree temporary removals of signs or lines with the responsible authorities well ahead, because those approvals often take longer than you expect.
Your permit pack should hold load drawings, axle loading diagrams, route maps, escort plans, insurance certificates and, for cross-border moves, customs and temporary import documents. Keep copies with the convoy. Your gas turbine generators and natural gas engines/stations often move in mixed convoys, so align paperwork for every load you send.
Plan Your Fleet Mix and Growth Beyond Mobile Units
Your mobile units often bridge to permanent plant. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B or used/new gas turbines can follow as larger bridge capacity, each with its own heavy-haul plan. Engines can cover black-start and part-load duty while your turbines carry base load, which keeps your site flexible as demand grows.
If your site will host compute loads, AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute may follow, along with modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1 blocks, for 50 Hz and 60 Hz with capacity slots from 2028. Keep transport, site works and commissioning under one hyperscale EPC/O&M team.
Where USP&E Supports Your Mobile Gas Turbine Project
If your mobile GT site receiving and fuel hook-up is in the United States, your first conversations run through USP&E’s US offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700). They keep you close to developers, utilities, gas suppliers and US equipment sources, and they can walk your site before anything ships.
Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) runs engineering, protection studies and project controls for mobile gas turbine trailers, Frame 6B bridges and BOP skids, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) adds design and commissioning support. London (162-168 Regent Street) structures the contract, insurance and financing file your lenders will read, while Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) follows up China supply chain and manufacturing.
For your mobile turbine move, US engineers can work with hauliers and permitting authorities on route surveys and site receiving, while mobile gas turbine trailers, Frame 6B bridges and BOP skids are sequenced into one delivery plan. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
USP&E Track Record for Mobile Gas Turbine
You want proof that USP&E can move heavy generation equipment and get it running. These projects show long-distance delivery done well.
- USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
- MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.
- Perenco, Guatemala: USP&E delivered a 13.1 MW HFO/diesel modular power station under full EPC in under five months, on time and on budget. Read the case study.
HowTo: Build the equipment and delivery path
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share load lists, site location and first-power date under NDA. 2. Receive a route survey, permit pack and delivery schedule. 3. Move, receive, commission and hand over with accountable O&M.
- Define origin, destination, and every interim stop, then commission a driven route survey with dated records of each constraint.
- Test a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, verified used/new gas turbines, and containerised natural gas engines/stations against the surveyed route.
- Review candidate units at the central inventory hub and request transport drawings, axle configurations, and inspection findings.
- Record route constraints that would also apply to modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, 50/60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028.
- Build the permit register, escort bookings, utility line-lift plans, and customs documents with named owners and expiry dates.
- Align convoy dates with site readiness, crane availability, and commissioning crews before final mobilisation.

FAQ: Mobile GT Heavy-Haul Permit Pack
Why is transport the critical path for mobile gas turbines?
USP&E treats transport as the critical path because turbine trailers, generators, control houses and transformers often exceed normal road limits. Permits, route surveys, escorts and civil works take time, and any gap can strand a convoy and delay first power by days or weeks.
What belongs in a heavy-haul permit pack?
USP&E builds permit packs with load drawings, axle loading diagrams, route maps, escort plans, insurance certificates and, for cross-border moves, customs and temporary import documents. Copies travel with the convoy so drivers can answer any inspection without waiting for an office to respond.
Where are USP&E’s offices for US mobile power projects?
USP&E leads US mobile power work from its offices in Colorado Springs and Knoxville, which keep you close to hauliers, utilities and US equipment sources. Johannesburg runs engineering and project controls, Cape Town adds commissioning support, London structures finance and Wuxi follows up China manufacturing.
Has USP&E delivered relocated or mobile generation before?
USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies include moving a stranded 32 MW MAN plant across four countries to Iraq and a 13.1 MW modular station in Guatemala delivered in under five months.
Is USP&E a broker for mobile gas turbines?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that plans transport, installs, commissions and operates power plants, so the team responsible for your convoy is also responsible for getting the mobile turbine synchronised and producing power.
How fast can USP&E respond to a mobile power request?
USP&E can start route and permit planning as soon as you share load lists, site location and your first-power date. Route surveys and permit applications begin in parallel, and the delivery timeline then depends on authority processing times, escorts and site readiness.
What does a route survey check?
USP&E route surveys check bridge clearances and ratings, overhead lines, bends, culverts, shoulders, gradients and site access. Surveyors drive the route with the haulier, measure pinch points and record photos, so temporary removals and civil works can be agreed before the convoy leaves.
Can mobile turbines bridge to permanent plant?
USP&E often uses mobile turbines as a bridge while permanent capacity is built. Larger bridge units or permanent blocks follow on their own transport plans, and the site layout reserves space so mobile units can be removed without disrupting the plant that replaces them.
