Mobile GT Fuel Skid Quick-Connect

Your mobile gas turbine is meant to arrive, connect and generate within days. But the fuel connection is often the step nobody planned: pipe sizes that do not match, no isolation valves, no leak-test procedure and a gas supplier who has never seen the trailer.

If quick-connect is an afterthought, your turbine sits on site idle while fittings are fabricated, your temporary power contract runs up costs and the load you promised to support stays dark. A rushed connection can also create a gas leak risk nobody wants to explain.

USP&E Helps You Connect Fuel Fast and Safely

We know mobile power is bought for speed, and the fuel connection is where speed is usually lost. Since 2002 USP&E has built 150+ power stations and supplied about 25 000 MW across 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries. Our 400+ engineers and project managers have mobilised and connected temporary and bridge power around the world. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

Design the Fuel Quick-Connect Before the Trailer Moves

Agree your fuel interface before mobilisation: supply pressure and flow, gas quality, pipe size and rating, connection type, isolation and venting arrangements, and metering. A standard quick-connect skid with filtration, pressure regulation and emergency shutdown can be prepared on site while the turbine is in transit.

Write your leak-test and purging procedure in advance, approved by your gas supplier and site safety team. Include test pressures, hold times, gas detection and who signs off. When the trailer arrives, connection becomes a rehearsed sequence rather than a negotiation.

Check your ground and access too. Your gas turbine generators need a level, compacted pad, clear access for cranes and fuel lines that avoid traffic routes.

Bridge With a Remanufactured GE Frame 6B While Permanent Fuel Yards Mature

Mobile units are often a bridge to permanent plant. Where the bridge period is longer, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B on a semi-permanent foundation can be more economical, using the same fuel reception skid. Check its fuel requirements, inspection records and controls status before deciding.

Natural gas engines/stations can also serve as transportable bridge power with simpler fuel connections. Comparing used/new gas turbines, mobile trailers and engines on mobilisation time, fuel interface and duration helps you choose the right bridge.

Bridge to Modular FX-45 and Compute-Adjacent Growth

Mobile turbines increasingly bridge AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute while permanent plants are built. Design your quick-connect skid and pad so you can later use them for permanent units, or be reused elsewhere, rather than being scrapped when the trailer leaves.

The planning reference for later blocks is modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, for 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028. USP&E carries receiving, quick-connect, leak testing and temporary O&M into hyperscale EPC/O&M, and plans demobilisation from day one so the site is left ready for the permanent plant.

Where USP&E Supports Your Mobile Gas Turbine Project

If your mobile GT site receiving and fuel hook-up is in the United States, your first conversations run through USP&E’s US offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700). They keep you close to developers, utilities, gas suppliers and US equipment sources, and they can walk your site before anything ships.

Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) runs engineering, protection studies and project controls for mobile gas turbine trailers, Frame 6B bridges and BOP skids, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) adds design and commissioning support. London (162-168 Regent Street) structures the contract, insurance and financing file your lenders will read, while Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) follows up China supply chain and manufacturing.

For a mobile turbine deployment, that means a US engineer agrees pipe sizes, isolation valves and leak-test pressures with your gas supplier before the trailer leaves the yard, while Wuxi expedites quick-connect skid fabrication. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.

What USP&E Has Delivered for Mobile Gas Turbine Buyers

You want proof that USP&E can move and connect turbine power quickly. These projects show what the team has delivered.

  • USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
  • NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
  • MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.

HowTo: Build the equipment and delivery path

Your 3-step plan: 1. Share your site location, gas supply details and target date under NDA. 2. Get a quick-connect design, leak-test procedure and turbine option set with EPC and O&M scope. 3. Receive, connect, test and operate with demobilisation planned from day one.

  1. Map mobile load windows, fuel sources, access roads, and which duties need gas turbine generators versus temporary diesel helpers.
  2. Compare trailer packages, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, verified used/new gas turbines, and natural gas engines/stations against that fuel and logistics matrix.
  3. Review current equipment at the central inventory hub and request records, inspection findings, controls status, and logistics dimensions.
  4. Reserve civil and electrical interfaces for modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, 50/60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028.
  5. Write receiving, quick-connect, leak test, demobilisation, training, and temporary O&M procedures with named leads.
  6. Complete permits, funding, fuel agreements, and commissioning rehearsals before mobilisation.

FAQ: Mobile GT Fuel Skid Quick-Connect

Why do mobile gas turbines get delayed at the fuel connection?

USP&E sees fuel connection delays when pipe sizes, pressures, isolation and leak-test procedures are not agreed before the trailer moves. Fittings then have to be fabricated on site, so a turbine meant to run within days sits idle while the connection is designed and approved.

What belongs on a mobile turbine quick-connect skid?

USP&E typically includes filtration, pressure regulation, isolation and venting valves, emergency shutdown, metering and gas detection on a quick-connect skid. Prepared before arrival and matched to your supply pressure and flow, the skid turns connection into a rehearsed sequence rather than an improvised job.

When is a remanufactured GE Frame 6B better than a mobile turbine?

USP&E suggests a remanufactured GE Frame 6B when the bridge period is long enough that a semi-permanent installation beats trailer rental. It can share the same fuel reception skid, provided its fuel requirements, inspection records and controls status suit your site.

Which USP&E offices support mobile turbine deployments?

USP&E supports US mobile turbine deployments from Colorado Springs and Knoxville, where engineers coordinate with gas suppliers and site teams. Johannesburg leads engineering and project controls, Cape Town adds commissioning, London covers finance and contracts, and Wuxi supports China-made skids and balance-of-plant.

Has USP&E delivered turbine and mobile power projects before?

USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. USP&E also moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant across four countries to an industrial buyer in Iraq facing long lead times.

Is USP&E a broker for mobile gas turbines?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that designs the fuel interface, supplies and connects turbines, runs leak tests, commissions the plant and operates it, so one accountable team owns your mobile power from arrival to demobilisation.

How fast can USP&E respond to a mobile power request?

USP&E can start planning as soon as you share site location, gas supply details and target date. US-based engineers agree the fuel interface with your supplier while equipment availability is checked, so timing depends mostly on gas supply readiness and site permits.

What does a good mobile turbine leak test include?

USP&E leak-test procedures define test pressures, hold times, purging steps, gas detection checks and sign-off roles, all approved in advance by your gas supplier and safety team. Following the same written procedure every time keeps connections fast, safe and fully documented.
