Mobile Gas Turbine Generators

Mobile GT Power Cable Pack

Your mobile gas turbine fleet is only connected by its cables. Power cables from generator trailers to transformers and switchgear, control and communication cables between skids, and auxiliary supplies all have to be laid, terminated and tested quickly on sites that change from project to project.

Undersized cables overheat, poor terminations fail under load, and cables run over by trucks or left in water break down. Each fault means a trip, a fire risk or a damaged connector you cannot replace on site, and on a bridge-power job that can mean an outage and missed milestones.

USP&E Helps You Build a Mobile GT Power Cable Pack

We know cables are often the last thing planned on a mobile deployment, after the turbines, fuel and transformers are sorted. With 150+ power projects in 45+ countries and 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, USP&E puts 400+ engineers and project managers behind you; they size, route, terminate and test power and control cable packs for mobile gas turbine fleets that move between demanding sites. You get ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified quality and safety systems, with FCPA and OFAC compliance on every contract. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

A good cable pack is a kit, not a pile. It has the right lengths, the right ratings, field-ready connectors, protection for the route and test records that travel with the fleet.

List Every Run and Size It Properly

Start your pack with a cable schedule: every run between generator trailers, transformers, switchgear, auxiliary skids, control rooms and fuel systems, with its length, voltage, current and purpose. Include control, protection and communication cables, not only the power runs.

Size power cables for current, voltage drop, ambient and ground temperature, and how they will be laid. Cables bunched together, laid in direct sun or run on hot ground carry less current than the same cable in open air. Get the derating factors from your electrical designer.

Plan for different site layouts. Mobile fleets move, and the next site may need longer runs. A pack with some longer lengths and joining kits gives you flexibility without overloading short cables.

Choose Connectors and Protect the Route

Choose connectors and terminations your crew can make up and test in the field. Plug-in connectors speed up moves and reduce termination errors, but they must be rated for the current, voltage and environment, and kept clean and capped when not in use.

Route cables where they are safe from vehicles, water, heat and damage. Use cable ramps or protectors at crossings, keep runs out of standing water, keep power and control cables apart where interference matters, and keep cables away from hot exhaust ducts.

Mark every cable in your pack at both ends with a clear identification that matches the schedule. In a fault or restart, your crew must find the right cable fast.

Test After Every Move and Keep Records

Test insulation resistance and check connections before first energisation and after every move. Cables are flexed, dragged and stored between sites, and damage you cannot see can fail as soon as voltage is applied. Record results against each cable identity.

Check terminations with thermal imaging once the fleet carries load. Hot connections show up early and can be fixed in a planned stop rather than after a failure.

Store your cables properly between jobs, coiled within bend limits and kept dry. The same care applies wherever temporary power leads to permanent plant: gas turbine generators bridging a campus, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, used/new gas turbines or natural gas engines/stations, and the AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute that follow under hyperscale EPC/O&M, including the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA, all depend on tested, recorded connections.

Where USP&E Supports Your Mobile Gas Turbine Project

If your mobile GT site receiving and fuel hook-up is in the United States, your first conversations run through USP&E’s US offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700). They keep you close to developers, utilities, gas suppliers and US equipment sources, and they can walk your site before anything ships.

Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) runs engineering, protection studies and project controls for mobile gas turbine trailers, Frame 6B bridges and BOP skids, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) adds design and commissioning support. London (162-168 Regent Street) structures the contract, insurance and financing file your lenders will read, while Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) follows up China supply chain and manufacturing.

For mobile GT cable packs, Colorado Springs and Knoxville engineers can build your cable schedule with the site lead, check routes on arrival and witness insulation tests before energisation. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.

FAQ: Mobile GT Power Cable Pack

Why does a mobile GT fleet need a planned cable pack?

USP&E plans cable packs because cables connect every part of a mobile fleet and are moved, flexed and stored between sites. Your undersized cables or poor terminations cause trips, fire risk and outages. A planned kit with correct ratings and records avoids those failures.

How should mobile power cables be sized?

USP&E sizes cables for current, voltage drop, ambient and ground temperature and how they are laid. You must apply derating when cables are bunched, in sun or on hot ground. The same cable carries less current in those conditions than in open air.

Are plug-in connectors a good idea?

USP&E often uses plug-in connectors because they speed up moves and reduce termination errors. Your connectors must be rated for current, voltage and environment, kept clean and capped when unused, and inspected after every move to prevent faults under load.

When should cables be tested?

USP&E tests insulation resistance and connections before first energisation and after every move, because hidden damage shows up under voltage. You should also check terminations with thermal imaging once the fleet carries load. Recorded results against each cable identity show trends and catch damage early.

Where are USP&E’s offices that support mobile fleets?

USP&E leads mobile turbine projects from Colorado Springs and Knoxville, close to US bridge-power sites. London structures contracts and finance, Johannesburg and Cape Town support African deployments, and Wuxi covers China manufacturing and supply. All offices share your project file.

Has USP&E delivered gas turbine projects before?

USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies also cover NEOM, where USP&E supplied zero-hour gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface. You can read each case study yourself.

Is USP&E a broker for mobile turbines?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E designs, supplies, builds and operates power plants with its own engineers, so the team that plans your cable pack also lays and tests it on site and stays accountable to you while the fleet runs.

How fast can USP&E respond on a cable plan?

USP&E can start reviewing your fleet data, site layouts and single-lines as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag undersized runs and missing connectors first, then issue the cable schedule, with timing set by data quality and mobilisation dates.

Connect Your Fleet Safely Every Time

Get the cable pack right and your mobile fleet connects quickly and runs without hot joints or trips. Get it wrong and the first sign is a burnt connector or a cable fault under load. USP&E will help you size, lay and test with confidence.
