Mobile Gas Turbine Generators

Mobile GT Operator Crew and Rotation Pack

Your mobile gas turbines can be on site and running in weeks, but they are only as reliable as the crew that runs them. Every shift needs people who can start, run, troubleshoot and protect the units, and those people need somewhere to sleep, a way to get to site and time off without leaving gaps.

If staffing is an afterthought, the risks pile up quickly: units sitting idle because nobody qualified is on shift, tired crews making mistakes, delays waiting for visas or travel, and trips that take hours to recover because the right skills are not on site. That means downtime and lost revenue on a deployment that was meant to be fast.

USP&E Helps You Put the Right Crew on Every Shift

We know your deployment has to run around the clock from day one. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers deploy, operate and maintain mobile and permanent gas turbine plant. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

You do not need a huge team. You need the right roles on every shift, a rotation that keeps people fresh and a plan to train local hires so your deployment can grow or move.

Define the Roles Your Deployment Needs

List the roles that must be on your site on every shift: control room operators, mechanical and electrical technicians, an instrument technician where controls are complex, and a shift supervisor with authority to make decisions. Add your day roles too, such as maintenance planning, stores, HSE and site management.

Match the roles to your units. A small deployment of trailer-mounted units may need a lean crew with broad skills. A larger farm with a substation, fuel systems and grid connection needs more specialists. Our mobile turbine guide explains how these packages are laid out and what they need to run.

Plan cover for leave, sickness and training. If your crew list has no spare people, it leaves you with gaps the first time someone is ill.

Choose Shifts, Rotations and Logistics

Pick a shift pattern and rotation that keeps your site covered without wearing people out. Long rotations on remote sites reduce travel but increase fatigue. Short rotations reduce fatigue but increase travel cost and handover risk. Set rules on maximum hours, rest between shifts and how many night shifts in a row.

Arrange accommodation, transport, meals and medical cover before your units arrive. On remote or temporary sites that may mean a camp, a contract with a local hotel or daily transport from the nearest town. Sort out visas, work permits and site inductions early, because they often take longer than mobilising the equipment.

Our temporary and rental power projects plan crew logistics alongside equipment logistics for exactly that reason.

Train Local Hires and Control Handover and Fatigue

Plan your local hires and their training from the start. Local operators and technicians lower cost, build community support and stay when the deployment is extended. Pair them with experienced staff, train them on the units and sign off each skill before they work alone.

Give your crews a written shift handover covering unit status, alarms, work in progress, isolations and anything unusual. Apply a fatigue rule at every crew change. Most serious incidents on temporary plant happen at handover or late in a long shift.

Crew planning carries over when gas turbine generators move to permanent sites, whether that means a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, used/new gas turbines, natural gas engines/stations, AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators or gas turbines for compute under hyperscale EPC/O&M, or the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA. Global Offices Behind Your Mobile Gas Turbine Programme

Your team wants answers in its own time zone. USP&E’s offices in Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) lead your mobile GT site receiving and fuel hook-up conversations in the US, from the first data request to the site visit, so questions about fuel, interconnection and delivery are answered by people who can be on site.

The wider network carries the heavy lifting for mobile gas turbine trailers, Frame 6B bridges and BOP skids: London (162-168 Regent Street) for structuring and finance, Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) for engineering and project controls, Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) for design and commissioning support, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) for China supply chain and manufacturing.

For crew planning, Colorado Springs and Knoxville teams can plan roles, rotations and training for your deployment, and our Johannesburg and Cape Town teams help with African staffing. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E’s reach covers 150+ power projects in 45+ countries and 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and the company is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.

USP&E Track Record for Mobile Gas Turbine

You want proof that USP&E can deploy and run gas turbine and modular plant on tight schedules. These projects show that record.

  • USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
  • MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.
  • Perenco, Guatemala: USP&E delivered a 13.1 MW HFO/diesel modular power station under full EPC in under five months, on time and on budget. Read the case study.

HowTo: Staff a Mobile GT Deployment

Your 3-step plan: 1. Share your deployment size, site location and schedule. 2. Receive a crew plan with roles, rotations and training. 3. Mobilise, run and adjust the crew with accountable O&M.

  1. List the roles the deployment needs on every shift: operators, technicians, electrical and supervision.
  2. Choose a shift pattern and rotation that keeps cover without fatigue.
  3. Arrange accommodation, transport and travel before the units arrive.
  4. Plan local hires and the training they need to work safely on the units.
  5. Set a written shift handover and a fatigue rule for every crew change.
  6. Review staffing as the deployment grows, shrinks or moves.

FAQ: Mobile GT Operator Crew and Rotation Pack

How many people does a mobile gas turbine deployment need?

USP&E sizes the crew from the number of units, the site layout, the grid connection and the operating hours. Every shift needs qualified operators, technicians and a supervisor, plus day roles for maintenance, stores and HSE. The right number comes from that role list, not a fixed rule.

What shift pattern works best for mobile turbine sites?

USP&E chooses shift patterns that balance fatigue, travel and handover risk for each site. Remote sites often use longer rotations to reduce travel, with strict rules on hours and rest. Sites near towns can use shorter rotations. Fatigue rules should apply whatever pattern is chosen.

Can local staff operate mobile gas turbines?

USP&E trains local hires to operate and maintain mobile units safely. They work alongside experienced staff and are signed off skill by skill before working alone. Local crews lower cost, build community support and are often still there if the deployment is extended.

Why is shift handover so important?

USP&E uses written shift handovers because many incidents happen when crews change. The handover should cover unit status, alarms, work in progress, isolations and anything unusual. A clear record means the incoming crew knows exactly what they are taking over.

Where are USP&E’s offices for mobile gas turbine projects?

USP&E leads mobile gas turbine projects from Colorado Springs and Knoxville in the US. London supports contracts and finance, Johannesburg and Cape Town add field crews and engineering depth across Africa, and Wuxi follows up switchgear and equipment made in China.

Has USP&E delivered fast-track power projects before?

USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies also include a 32 MW MAN plant redeployed to Iraq and a modular power station for Perenco in Guatemala delivered in under five months.

Is USP&E a broker for mobile turbines?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E deploys, operates and maintains turbines with its own people, so the team that plans your crew is the same team that runs the units on every shift, maintains them and answers for their availability.

How fast can USP&E put a crew together?

USP&E can start crew planning as soon as you share the deployment size, site location and schedule. Engineers flag long-lead items such as visas, permits and accommodation first, so trained people are ready on site when the units arrive and start.

Run Your Units with a Crew You Can Count On

Plan your crew early and your turbines run safely from the first shift. Leave it late and units sit idle while you search for people. USP&E will help you staff, train and run the deployment with confidence.
